Aristocrat and Dragon Link: who made it, and how the series grew

Dragon Link is Aristocrat's, down to the trade mark filed in October 2015. It came from the same studio as Lightning Link, launched with four games and grew to ten, and in 2026 Aristocrat was still issuing new versions for Australian venues, where a club's linked Grand starts at $10,000. Here's the series' history from Aristocrat's own records and the regulators' files.

Aristocrat, the Australian gaming company behind Lightning Link and Queen of the Nile. On its series page Aristocrat credits Dragon Link to "HRG studios, the creators of Lightning Link", and says the series builds off the Lightning Link platform.

The name is Aristocrat's in law, too. IP Australia's register shows the word mark DRAGON LINK, number 1726729, filed on 9 October 2015 by Aristocrat Technologies Australia Pty Limited for gaming machines and gaming software, registered in 2016 and renewed to 2035. Aristocrat added a stylised mark and a flaming-orb logo in 2023, and on 25 September 2026 filed "DRAGON LINK MEGA GRAND CHASER" — a name for something not yet announced.

Cabinets: Helix to MarsX

Aristocrat's Australian specifications from 2020 list Dragon Link on its Helix family of cabinets — Helix, Helix+, Helix X and slant-top versions. Today Aristocrat's Australian page presents "the best Dragon Link games" on its premium MarsX cabinets, with "sharper graphics and larger jackpots", and names eight titles on them. In Asia, Aristocrat launched the series "exclusively on the MarsX cabinet".

Dragon Cash and what came after

Every Dragon Link title also exists as Dragon Cash, which Aristocrat describes as a "standalone progressive range" that "incorporates many attributes made popular by Lightning Cash". The idea is the same pair Aristocrat built for Lightning: a linked version with a shared Grand, and a standalone one.

In August 2026 Aristocrat's Australian catalogue introduced Phoenix Link as "the next evolution in Premium Link jackpots, building on the worldwide success of Dragon Link", on its The Baron Portrait cabinet. How Dragon Link compares with Lightning Link and Phoenix Link is on Dragon Link vs Lightning Link.

Questions people ask

Is Dragon Link made by Aristocrat?

Yes. Aristocrat credits it to HRG studios, the creators of Lightning Link, and the DRAGON LINK trade mark in Australia belongs to Aristocrat Technologies Australia Pty Limited.

Is Lightning Link an Aristocrat game too?

Yes, from the same studio. Aristocrat says Dragon Link builds off the Lightning Link platform and was designed to coexist with it.

When did Dragon Link come out?

Aristocrat filed the trade mark on 9 October 2015, the series made Casino Journal's Top 20 for 2016, and its Australian game pages were online by March 2017. The ACT approved the first four titles as Dragon Link on 29 March 2018.

Are Aristocrat pokies good?

They're some of the most played in Australia, and Dragon Link has won industry awards for how it performs in casinos. Good for players is another matter: Aristocrat doesn't publish the return of its venue games, and every machine keeps a share of what's bet over time.

For this page I read IP Australia's trade mark register, Aristocrat's catalogue, archived pages and press releases from 2017 to 2026, and the ACT and Victorian approvals. The exact month Dragon Link first reached an Australian venue isn't in any of them, so I don't give one.

Commissions never change what I write, how I rate a game or the order anything appears in.
