What I do here

I write the Dragon Link guides on Lantern Reels for readers in Australia. Mia Kowalczyk is the pen name I use, and the portrait is a drawing, not a photo.

Most of the work is checking. When a page says how Hold & Spin is triggered or which titles belong to the series, that comes from Aristocrat's own catalogue. When it says what a state allows — the minimum return, the biggest bet on one spin — it comes from the standard or the act, with the page number noted. When it says a club has the machines, I read it on the club's own website and write down the date.

How I work

  • Aristocrat's sheet beats anyone's opinion. Including mine.
  • If it isn't published, I say so. The return of a venue Dragon Link machine is the obvious example: nobody publishes it, so I don't pretend to know it.
  • No "due" machines. A pokie doesn't remember the last spin. I won't write that a Grand is about to drop, and I won't sell a system.
  • Every page has two dates — first published and last checked — and a list of sources at the bottom.

What I'm not

I don't hold a gaming licence, I'm not a regulator and I'm not a financial adviser. I'm an editor who reads primary sources closely and writes down where everything came from.
